Hello! I’m Matt, an audio producer.
I’ve spent 16 years turning the written word into performances that connect with listeners from the very first line.
I’ve directed more than 400 audiobooks and 50 audio dramas, delivering thousands of hours of finished audio. The titles I’ve produced have sold millions of copies, reached bestseller lists, and won or been nominated for major audio awards.
For 12 years, I was Senior Audio Producer at Black Library, the publishing imprint of Games Workshop, where I shaped the sound of the sci-fi and fantasy worlds of Warhammer. Before that, I produced fiction, non-fiction and children’s audio for HarperCollins, Little, Brown and Orion.
I’m an expert in end-to-end audio production. I’ve edited scripts, hosted auditions and cast productions. As a bookworm, it’s a joy to dig into novels and prep projects down to the smallest detail.
I’ve directed household names and developed actors new to audio. I adore collaborating, unlocking scenes and chapters, and hearing a story bloom to life in the studio.
I'm a long-form audio editing ninja, Pro Tools wizard and iZotope RX magician.
I love the craft of it. I'm passionate about great stories and great audio.
See what I’ve done, and what I can offer.
AUDIOBOOK SERVICES
Audiobook Editing
Need your audiobook or podcast edited, tidied and ready for your listeners? I can shape your raw recording into great-sounding audio!
I’ve edited more than 4,000 hours of spoken-word audio for major publishers, across titles and series that have sold millions of copies: audiobooks, audio dramas, podcasts and long-form narration. I bring a director’s ear for the performance and an engineer’s ear for the sound.
I’ve produced enough audiobooks to know your recording took days of toil in the studio. And I know the editing process is laborious, that there’s thousands of misreads, fluffs, stumbles, lip noises, stomach growls, unwanted breaths, and awkward pauses that need fixing. I’ll edit all these, make your audio sound seamless and the performance the very best it can be.
My weapons of choice are Pro Tools and iZotope RX. I’ve used them every day for a decade and a half.
- In Pro Tools, I’ll apply cuts, edits, crossfades, and use room tone to make the recording sound like it was read in a single take.
- I use level automation and compression, evening out the voice while keeping the performance dynamic and engaging.
- I’ll apply EQ to add warmth and air and control harshness, plosives and sibilance.
- For detailed cleanup, I’ll use iZotope RX. De-clicking, mouth-noise reduction, spectral repair and noise reduction, all the tools to make the audio crystal clear.
- Pauses matter. They help shape a scene. I’ll add (or remove) them so your narration does justice to the text.
- Pickups need to adhere to the original read. I’ll match the tone and pace so they fit smoothly into the audiobook.
- I’ll make the audio meet the very exacting specifications required by Audible / ACX.
Need your audio cleaning up? Perhaps you’ve not got the best-sounding studio. Perhaps your audio is clipped or distorted. Send me your audio and I’ll repair it!

Audiobook Manuscript Preparation
I love to read, analyse a text, and create the preparation you need to succeed in the studio.
400 pages, 100,000 words? Before narrating a book, you’ll need to have…read the book. The whole thing. Every word. Need a hand?
I’ll read your manuscript and create a:
- Pronunciation guide: Nouns, jargon. All the tricky stuff. Listed phonetically, or recorded for you as a handy reference audio file.
- Character guide: Brief character profiles of all the speaking parts, when they first speak; their accents, their goals, their quirks.
- Chapter summaries: The beats of each chapter, handily summarised. Who does what, where and when. A helpful reference when you’re approaching day 5 of a read.

Audiobook Proof Listening
Need a final check before release? I can catch what the edit missed.
Proof listening is a vital stage in audiobook production. I’ve proof listened to dozens of audiobooks for major publishers, assessing both the performance and technical aspects of full, hours-long productions.
It’s close, detailed, active listening. I’m checking that the narration matches the manuscript exactly, that pronunciations are accurate, that jargon and complex language stay consistent, and that the emotional and tonal journey carries through the whole book. Right down to making sure a character’s name sounds the same in the prologue as it does in the epilogue!
I’ll also be listening for any technical gremlins that need catching. A bang, or background noise, a rumble, some studio hum…anything that might pull the listener from the story. I’ll hear it and I’ll flag it.
- I follow the audio against the manuscript, listening closely to the whole audiobook from start to finish.
- I flag misreads, missing words, repeats, missed edits and technical scuffs, with timecodes on a proof listening report.
- Pickups are marked with practical notes, ready for the narrator to re-record.
- I’ll keep the proof report concise and useful. What happened, where it happened, and what needs fixing.
